ORF – Ö1

Everybody has their function, their role, their position, their pose. Leaving a role model behind, only works when you were in one in the first place. That is exactly what the gentlemen from Nifty’s do – in many ways. They create expectations only to present you with something totally different. They roll out the red carpet and then pull it out from underneath your ears. It’s what an introduction by Roberto Benigni would sound like, somewhere between circus and Jim Jamusch, to then make space for a heavy metal transporter. A polka step changes – almost imperceptibly – into a floating 7er beat. A rhythmical displacement piece of the Klezmer tradition heats up to a jolly “Freijlach” and is then stopped where it eats itself like a blocked buzz saw into the floor of the music. […]

Why this then all sounds so natural, seems so logical and is also so enjoyable must be because the band are simply masters of their craft, which permits the creation of the most wonderful of insanities.
